Students will learn important skills that will help them with gathering research, crafting & defending arguments, and understanding the implications of their arguments. Additionally, students will be exposed to a variety of current events and perhaps most importantly gain confidence in themselves and their speaking.

Interested 7th and 8th graders are welcome to attend an informational meeting, which will be announced by Mr. Staab.

The Debate Team took 1st Place and 3rd Place at the final tournament of 2021. Greenfield also had 6 of the Top 10 Speakers for the 2 day city-wide tournament.

Greenfield Debate finished the 2022-23 season with their fifth consecutive 1st place finish! Everly Brewe and Piper Mangold were the Top Team and Lilla Riches finished the tournament as the Top Speaker with a perfect score of 60/60 over the three rounds of debating. An amazing job from the team this season, thanks for all your hard work!

“Debate had an impact on me by shaping me, teaching me, and guiding me. Most of the time youare researching, writing, and perfecting your arguments, preparing for the competition. You sculpt relationships with your partners, learning one another’s strengths and weaknesses to the point that you are able to build off of them. You learn to rely on each other, as well as communicate together, knowing that it is only when you work together that you can accomplish your goals. This journey also teaches you to work with confidence, not backing down at the first mention of a threat or difficulty. In addition, at the actual competition, you master the ability to work under pressure, even creating major components of your argument on the spot. In the end, it does not matter if you win the debate, but that you have made progress and have had fun.” – Seventh Grade student
